Trust

First and foremost, you have to trust your employees and make sure they know that you trust them. They wouldn’t be working for you if there wasn’t already an element of trust there, but you’d be surprised at how many employers worry that their employees aren’t working hard enough when not in the office. Conversely, there are many remote employees who worry that their hard work is not recognised as they’re working from home.

Just because they’re remote doesn’t mean they’re not working hard.

In fact, according to a FlexJobs survey, 95% of respondents say that their productivity has been higher or the same working from home.

This leads nicely onto the next point:

Communication

Communication is key. Regular check-ins with your remote team help them know that they’re valued and they haven’t been forgotten about. Regular feedback on their work also keeps morale high. It also can put employer’s minds at ease to have regular communications on what everyone is working on.

If you’re planning on having meetings in the office, it’s worth having them remotely over Microsoft Teams or Zoom if you have some employees working from home, with even those in the office signing in remotely from different offices. This will make sure everyone feels on equal footing, and there won’t be any nuances missed for the remote workers.

Collaborative Resources

Even if your entire team isn’t remote, it’s important to utilise collaborative resources like Microsoft Teams so that all your important files and communications are in the same place.

Teams isn’t just a place to have video calls with your colleagues, you can also work on documents collaboratively, which is great even if you’re all in the office! It makes flexible working easier and also can help prepare your business for more employees to return to the office as all the work is online anyway.
